Brian patiently walks me through the history of the salon and the origin of his technique, stressing the importance of education at his salon. He is passionate about inspiring his artists to become top specialists in one specific field of hair - something he calls “departmentalizing.” In Brian's opinion, it is what differentiates TRU salon from others. The many awards aligning the wall speak to its success.
Brian’s specialty is dry haircutting - a technique I was unfamiliar with before stepping foot into TRU. The definition is exactly how it sounds, and according to Brian, you can achieve much more accurate lines through this method. Brian impressed me, as he prudently pulled pieces of my hair, snipping at each as if he were working on a masterpiece.
As Brian cuts, we talk more about about his resume — from prestigious art schools to the most elite of NYC salons. I learn that Cheryl, my point of contact in making the appointment, is both Co-owner and Brian’s wife. As handler of all business needs, Cheryl too, boasts an array of impressive experience, including Vidal Sassoon & Bumble and Bumble training.
Our goal is a trim with long layers and an angle framing the face, but I leave with more than that. Upon finishing his cut, Brian straightens my hair. I feel sexy and fresh - just like the essence of TRU Salon.
Brian and Debbie grace me with a bag of goodies before leaving - travel-size Tru Salon products, including TRU Hydration Conditioner and TRU UV Primer. The latter is a paba-free detangling and conditioning spray that protects your hair and its color from the sun's strong rays. I spray the fine mist onto my hair directly after my shower and it leaves my hair with just the right amount of glossiness. I literally can't get enough!
A warm and special thank you to Brian, Cheryl & Debbie. I can't wait to come back for my next cut!
